Houses

Houses and rooms are a metaphor for people. These windowless, doorless boxes, which you are sometimes unexpectedly allowed to enter, are at the same time a comfortable home and a prison without escape. One can easily lose themselves if they take up their home in someone else. A lover easily forgets their own beauty if they lose themselves in the beauty of their beloved. This, however, is the nightmare of a modern human. After all, we all love ourselves more than anything else in the world, and in our postmodern society, all caught up in the vortex of individualism, we therefore have an unbearable fear of responsibility, love, relationships, and attachment. Or, to put it another way: fear of commitment. Love then becomes binding and causes anxiety. Anxiety about the end of love and anxiety that there will never be an end. The anxiety of losing both ourselves and also our beloved. But unfortunately for us, loneliness is also our terrible enemy. That is why today's humans are always running away. From one house to another. They break down one human shell after another, one heart after another. First of all, they destroy themselves.

I used walls, rooms, and houses as suitable symbols. They are things that put us in a specific place, providing protection from the outside world. In them, we find safety and peace of mind, creating a cozy and warm space to which we can always return. A house can represent a loved one, a place, or even an aspect of ourselves. However, after living within these walls for some time, one can begin to feel limited. It's as though the house suddenly has no doors, the cozy room has no windows, and escape becomes seemingly impossible. All that remains is a stark memory of the world beyond these walls. If we don't break free now, we risk losing our sanity within these four walls. The house is an environment we're a little too used to being in, and we become too comfortable in it. A safe haven can quickly turn into a prison. Suddenly, we don't know how to escape or if escape is even possible. The desire to leave arises, perhaps simply because we can't. We become curious about what lies beyond.

The paintings depict scenes from the story of a person who finds themselves in such a situation and strives to break free. But in the end, everyone seeks a home anyway; it's cold outside.

A house, however, does not have to be a home.  A home doesn't have to be a house. Houses are just and only a medium. Home and love are, above all, inside ourselves.
